17th Armored Engineer Battalion in World War 2

17th Engineers during World War Two

About the creators

Initiative

We started as a World War 2 re-enctmentgroup in the year 2001 under the “Voorwaarts MARS” Living History Association.
The unit that was choosen for the World War 2 re-enactment group is: 2nd Armored Division, 17th Armored Engineer Battalion, B Company.

For years we have collected all kinds of historic information about het Unit History, the Veterans, the men who served in this unit, papers, photographs, letters, after action reports and so on.
In 2011 one of our members, Moos Raaijmakers, currently serving as an OR9 rank in the Dutch Army engineer corps, started doing more research about the Engineers who died during World War 2, and who served as an 17th Engineer. More members of the re-enactment group joined the research and we adopted an wargrave.

In 2015 a member of the re-enactmentgroup, Martijn Brandjes, an advisor of Historic Building Conservation & Research, decided that all the collected historic information should be shared with the world and that an “Roll of Honor” must be set online to Honor the Fallen and the men who served and Liberated us. There was the start of this website.

With the help of one of the members Arthur Tak, an ICT Consultant, we started designing, building and scripting the website, for more then 5 years we worked on putting all the content on the webiste and doing all the additional research. The site will be updated frequently as information still being found.

We must express special thanks and appreciation too Moos Raaijmakers for sharing his information about the 17th Armored Engineer Battalion.
